Tomorrow is New Year Eve. I have been study some interesting things recently. Just keep some updates.
1. Flex
It is interesting what adobe’s ambition lies on dominating both the web and the desktop. But sadly there is not enough study material in Chinese, so I have to go to the official site and read the English document.
The other day a friend, who is top at web2.0 security, talked with me about flash player’s security problem to manipulate local files. Now using flex we can separate desktop application to RIA (Rich Internet Application), which is a fantastic way to deploy the flash in a creative way.
What I love most about Flex is that you can take anything from any website now and quickly wrap it up to a desktop app. Imagine you want to buy something, you do not have to open the browser and login to your ebay account, now all you have to do is click the icon in your desktop and Adobe AIR will take you to the same content on the Ebay website. To try?

2. Design
Still continuemy study on CSS, Ajax and Photoshop. Maybe I’ll pay more attention to yahoo’s UI solution, MooTools,Zend etc
3. NLP
I have been read and watch Richard Bandler’s works for a few days. It is truly amazing how a human being can alter his inner state by going to a trans. I always thought that it is weird for me not go to the doctor every time I catch cold, thinking I can cure myself. I feel so relieved that now I find some testimonials.
4. Other
Deep down, I feel I am still a naked child, wake up from the earth with my eyes widely open, crawling, searching, hurting…
I desert myself in a totally lonely cold helpless darkness, crying over and over, pray that my very star in the sky will hear me and light my way.
Richard says people who feel lonely are selfish, because they cannot even love themselves.

These days I have been thinking about taking website design as something i can pursue in the future.
Last month I received four request asking me to build a website. One was an American software company, the manager himself can construct websites, but he does not have much time to go through the design and coding.
As the economic crisis takes affect, a lot of companies are under pressure. Outsourcing work would be essential, so the companies can focus on the their main products and service.
Talking about the economy, i subscribed to articles from The New York Times News, Google Alert and Glorbal Resources. A lot of them are about American politics, financial turmoil, how to spend less and how to keep a company running under depression,etc.
The media creates a lot of panic. As a student myself, i’ve saw so many students signed contract with companies without even a second thought. Teachers are telling us, donot expect much and try every way to get the company sign us.I even started to worry and feel depressed. I remember recently i went to the university hospital to check my eyes, even the doctors concern about my job hunting more than I do .
But do I really need to rush to find a job now? What really matters? To find a confortzone to stay or find something i really love to do? It is not like that i can find something fits me if I try. Of course it also depends on chance. But wouldnot i feel less regret if in the near future i can at least tell myself,”I TRIED”.
I’ve asked a few people how they are doing during these financial crisis, most of them told me that they are not affected or their business is actually growing up. Some say their product is very technology-related so the product will not disappear from the market but prosper. Some say their service is very competitive and they have loyal clients.
As Gary Vaynerchuk has put in his NYC Street Keynote Speech “Hustle, next 24 months are the biggest opportunity for social media”, I believe that is not only for social media, but for many other people who has something special to offer.
Special, means we have to be different to survive. Take special thinking, extra effort or additional skill… whatever that no one else can copy or cannot copy in time.
We can never be sure what we have now will last forever. The only thing that nobody can take away from us is our brain.
I was thinking about create some special showcase website,like a designer’s showcase for long , then today i came across Craig Shields’ website. I think it is teffific, exactly the same effect as i wanted, imaginative yet doesnot need much server side support. Those special effects can be achived by using Jquery or some other ajax framework.
Anyway, i am pretty happy with what i am learning everyday, not much, but i am keeping on moving forward. As Steven Snell has mentioned in his article 10 steps to improve your photoshop skills
,”Start with the Fundamentals”, so i’ll just keep on learn and practice.
